What a week it has been! I usually try to write a blog on Saturdays when I am at a market, but my daughter joined me this past week. That meant quality time spent together that was definitely needed!
On February 20th, my husband and I celebrated 5 years of marriage! Time has flown by, and it seems like yesterday that we were at the Japanese Tea Gardens saying our vows! Since that day, it has been a whirlwind of events! From childbirth to obtaining full custody of my two bonus kiddos, and everything in between; we have truly been blessed through it all! 2016 brought marriage and a miscarriage, a bittersweet year but overall amazing all the same. 2017 brought our three year old being born and the full time custody of the two older kids. 2018 brought the birth of our littlest girl and the beginning of Lone Star Pure.
For our five year anniversary, my husband gifted me with a Cricut Maker. I have used this machine non-stop since getting and am loving every project I create! I am looking to upgrade my booth design even more over the next couple of months because of what the Maker brings to the table. From holiday decorations to signs and more, the Maker can do it all! It even cuts wood!
Yesterday and today were days of non-stop cooking! Yesterday I was able to crank out 154 jars of product, while today brought another 175! Needless to say, two days and a total of 329 later, this momma is wiped! I do believe that I will be taking it easy through the rest of the week, gearing up for the Arbor Park Pop Up Market this coming Sunday!
March is the beginning of strawberry season! I am so pumped about being able to stock up again! I am hoping, because of more small businesses carrying my product on a regular basis, to produce about 1,100 jars of strawberry and 1,100 jars of strawberry jalapeño….do you think I am crazy?
Let me explain…in January and February 2021 alone, I have successfully sold over 48 jars of just strawberry jam alone. That means that in one year, not including the “busy season” or Jelly Of The Month Club jars, I would need about 300 jars in just that one flavor! Double that to account for the strawberry jalapeño, making it a total of 600! My busy season usually brings about another 775 jars of strawberry jam and 775 jars of strawberry jalapeño on top of the original 300 for each. You add all these numbers together for a grand total of roughly 2,150 jars between the two flavors over the course of 2021! Kind of crazy, right?!
Now, here comes a crashing realization……I have to do the same for my peach flavors! So double that final strawberry number of 2,150 jars for a grand total of 4,300 jars for only four flavors! With that being said, I have come to a sad but necessary decision to not carry every flavor at our markets anymore. I will strictly carry my strawberry, peach, blackberry, grape (all with and without jalapeños) and three heat levels of candied jalapeños flavors at our markets. I will carry these flavors and all other products solely on our online store. That includes raspberry, apple, blueberry, pear, and plum flavors (both with and without jalapeños). My seasonal items such as cranberry, cranberry jalapeño and pumpkin spice will be available at markets during their season and will be online then as well.
While I am a little sad to see some flavors not available at the markets I attend, I know that for my sanity and the sanity of everyone around me, it will be easier to maintain inventory levels and production. I am also excited to see our marinades join the jalapeño product line. These marinades are made from the same recipe as the candied jalapeños, giving you the sweet and spicy taste without the crunch of the jalapeño. Our marinades are available in three heat levels, just like our candied jalapeños and make for one heck of a rub or soak for everything you grill or bake! Make sure to check these out the next time you see us at our regular markets!
Once again, thank you for reading the crazy behind the scenes life of Lone Star Pure. With growth comes the responsibility and requirement to do what is best for the growing company. Lone Star Pure is at the growth level that requires these choices to be made. We truly appreciate all the patience, love and help our customers have shown since 2018. Without the love and support, we wouldn’t have the growth….and the decisions to make to better our quality for you guys.
Have a blessed week and you will be hearing from me again on Saturday!
